As checked 08/23/2026, FMCSA does not list these 12 states as requiring intrastate commercial motor vehicle registrants to obtain a USDOT number solely because of the state's intrastate registration requirement:

  • Mississippi
  • New Hampshire
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Rhode Island
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
Important: This does not mean a USDOT number can never be required in these states. Interstate commerce, certain hazardous-material operations, or other requirements may still require one. State rules can also change.

NO USDOT NUMBER?

Create My Intrastate Carrier

Use this protected request only when the company operates within one state and has no USDOT number. If the company has a USDOT number, use Find My Carrier on the left. No carrier account is created from this first form.

Human Check

Next you will enter the owner contact information, complete a second human check, and verify the owner email. MotorCarrierPros.com reviews the company/state information before any owner password setup invitation is released. If no official state reference is available, manual verification is used.

4. Approve & Start Setup

After the state filing/reference is reviewed, MotorCarrierPros.com sends the owner password setup invitation and the normal Company Setup begins.
